All Inspections

15 January 2014

During a routine inspection

Nottingham Unplanned Pregnancy Advisory Service (NUPAS) provided a satellite clinic at Newark Health Centre. We carried out our inspection at the satellite clinic at Newark Health Centre.

We found that there were suitable arrangements in place for obtaining the consent of people who used the service in relation to the support and treatment provided to them.

We spoke with two people who used the service. Both were very positive about the support they received. One person told us, 'Really good and friendly service. All confidential. No worrying about being judged. They give you a smile when you need it.' Another person told us, 'I felt listened to and was given a choice of treatment.'

The Medicines Management policy was comprehensive and provided clear guidance to all staff and meant that NUPAS had systems in place to protect people against risks associated with the unsafe use and management of medicines.

We saw that The Nottingham Unplanned Pregnancy Advisory Service had a number of processes in place to monitor the quality and safety of the service which included obtaining the views of people who used the service.

Information was also made available to people in relation to the Abortion law, counselling service and the organisations complaints procedure.

Patient's expressed their views and were involved in making decisions about their care and treatment. We spoke with a patient who used the service, they told us they felt they received adequate information to enable them to make an informed decision about the treatment options available to them.

We spoke with a patient using the service and they told us they felt safe and did not have any concerns about their safety. Staff members were described as caring, gentle and sensitive.

8 March 2012

During an inspection in response to concerns

The visit was part of a responsive review programme initiated at Fraterdrive LTD, following concerns raised in relation to breaches of the Abortion Act 1967, at another location.

We visited both the Nottingham Unplanned Pregnancy Advisory Service NUPAS Newark Health Centre and the East Midlands Pregnancy Advisory Service Nottingham as part of this review as patients' notes were stored at the Nottingham location when not in use.

We did not speak with people who used the service on this occasion.
