  • Are protected from abuse, or the risk of abuse, and their human rights are respected and upheld.

How this check was done

We looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service, carried out a visit on 13 February 2013, talked with people who use the service and talked with staff. We received feedback from people using comment cards.

Our judgement

People who use the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

Reasons for our judgement

People who use the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening. There was a safeguarding vulnerable adults policy in place. The provider told us care workers had been trained in safeguarding vulnerable adults. We spoke with care workers and saw records which confirmed that staff had undertaken safeguarding vulnerable adults training.

Care workers told us they knew what the different forms of abuse were and the signs they should be aware of. They were able to give us examples of what they would be if they had concerns about a person who used the service. This included talking to the person in a calm manner and reporting incidents to their supervisor in writing.

The provider responded appropriately to any allegation of abuse. We found that the provider raised safeguarding alerts with local authorities where there were allegations of abuse and provided information to investigation authorities where needed. This was in accordance with their safeguarding vulnerable adults policy which we viewed.
