During a routine inspection

We looked at information leaflets offered to people that described the service. We spoke to people who told us they were respected and involved in their care. One person said "They always asked for my opinion even if my addiction made it hard for me to give it."

We looked at six care records and saw that care was planned and risk was assessed appropriately. Care was offered in line with up to date clinical policies. People were positive about the care they received and the staff who provided this care. One person told us "My counsellor is so patient with me." Another person commented "I had such a great experience here that I came back as a volunteer."

Staff recruitment was objective and appropriate records of the process were kept. We looked at four employee recruitment files. We saw that references, occupational health and safeguarding clearance had been obtained before employees started work. This meant the service protected people from inappropriate staff appointments.

Service quality was assessed and monitored regularly. We saw evidence that the service was reviewed against organisational objectives on a quarterly basis. Staff told us that regular local audit was conducted. People using the service told us that they were invited to attend monthly meetings to provide feedback about the service and issues that impacted on their care.

We saw evidence that the service notified the CQC in a timely manner in the event of the death of a person who used the service.

The people who use the service told us that the staffs were helpful and the information they received enabled them to make their own choices and decisions. One person said 'I was asked what I wanted from the treatment, I was given choices'. There were policies and procedures in place for safeguarding and all staff had received safeguarding training. One person said 'This is a safe place; there are qualified people here to help us'.

Care plans were created providing choices to the people using the service and these were reviewed regularly. People using the service said: 'If you have a problem they will always help you out' and 'It's been a saviour for me'.

The members of staff that we met were qualified and experienced and were trained. Staff told us that they were supported by their manager

The provider had systems in place to assess and measure the quality of the service provided. A garden had been created for people using the service.
