During a routine inspection

This dental practice location is a small dental practice, owned and operated by three people who also own a number of other practices. This dental practice is situated in a residential street not far from Blackheath town centre. The practice is made up of a small team which includes a dentist, nurses and a receptionist.

This practice provides a full range of general dental assessments and treatments.

The practice location only has one treatment room that is in use at the present time. This treatment room is situated on the first floor which means that the practice can not offer treatment to people with mobility restrictions or who may use wheelchairs.The manager told us that if a person with mobility restrictions rang for an appointment they would give details of their practices nearby who could meet their needs.

People receiving care and treatment from this practice location pay independently or can access their dentistry through NHS costs. The practice has a current contract with the NHS to provide NHS dental care to people.

As part of our review we spoke with four people during our inspection visit and two people by phone. People spoke highly of this dentist practice. People were satisfied with the care and treatment they had received. Below are a few comments people made;

'It is a small dentist practice. I like that as they can give the 'personal touch'.

'When I first phoned the receptionist was really friendly and helpful, that made me feel at ease straight away'.

'I am a very nervous patient but they make me feel at ease. They explain things to me and give me choices'.

'The are really friendly and helpful. They explain things well to me'.

'I have got no concerns or complaints. I am happy with the service they provide'.

Evidence that we gathered during this review confirmed that people are assessed to decide what dental and oral healthcare needs they may have. Treatments that people may need are discussed with them and are carried out in a satisfactory way.

Overall we found good practices regarding infection control and cleaning procedures which demonstrated compliance in this area.
