Eastgate Supported Housing provides accommodation for people who are recovering from drug or alcohol misuse. The service is shown as having two registered managers. Sandra Eden no longer manages this location her details appear on this report as we have not received an application to remove her details.

We saw that people who used the service had provided written consent to the terms and conditions of living at the home. People told us they understood that there were restrictions associated with living at the home and accepted that the restrictions formed part of their rehabilitation.

Support for people who used the service was planned around their personal needs with the ultimate goal of enabling people to return to the community with structure and purpose in their lives to help them prevent relapses.

Eastgate Supported Housing presented a clean environment for people to live. A person who used the service said, 'We all do our bit, vacuuming and wiping things down. It's so you get into the habit for when you go home'.

There were sufficient suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff to provide the care and support people needed.

The provider had comprehensive auditing systems both locally and nationally to enable them to monitor and assess the quality of service provided.

During a routine inspection

The service provided care and support for people who had made a commitment to change their lives with a view to working towards a drug-free lifestyle. People were supported to develop self awareness and develop or regain life skills. At the time of our inspection there were nine people accommodated in the house. We spoke with two of the people who used the service and they told us that staff were helpful, caring, friendly and supported them with achieving their short and long term goals. A person told us, "The staff are great and have helped me a lot. It's not just a job to them."

We spoke with three staff members including the manager of the house. The staff had the skills, experience and expertise to meet the diverse needs of people, to understand their needs and to support them as individuals. The provider ensured that staff received the training they required to be able to do their job. One staff member said, "The training and support we get here is really good."

The provider worked closely with other relevant professionals and services in order to meet people's needs. People were supported and enabled to access these other services.
