All Inspections

During a routine inspection

This dental practice is located on the first floor and would not be suitable for people who have restricted mobility. The premise consisted of two treatment rooms, reception area, waiting room, toilet and a decontamination room.

The staff team consisted of one dentist, one hygienist and two dental nurses, all staff were registered with the General Dental Council.

We found that people were provided with information about their care and treatment options and consent was obtained before treatment commenced. One person who used the service said, 'My dentist always tells me what needs to be done and gives me a choice of options.'

Dental records contained a treatment plan which showed the treatment given and the cost.

We found that the decontamination of instruments used for dental treatment was satisfactory to reduce the risk of cross infection.

Two dental nurses were employed at the practice and records showed that they were provided with continued performance development to ensure they had the necessary skills to undertake their role.

The practice's complaints procedure was displayed in the waiting room and told people how to share their concerns. One person who used the service said, 'I've never had to complain but if I was dissatisfied with the service, I would talk to the lady in reception.'

During a routine inspection

This dental practice is located on the first floor; limited facilities such as a treatment room and toilet are located on the ground floor for people with restricted mobility. Situated on the first floor is the reception area, waiting room, two treatment rooms and a decontamination room.

Staff training records contained evidence of routine training to ensure they have the skills and competence to undertake their role.

One person who uses the service said, 'I don't usually have to wait a long time to be seen but if there is a delay, the dental nurses will give a reason for this and apologise.'

People told us that the dentist always explains their treatment plan and will also listen to their views. One person said, 'The dentist is very nice he puts me at ease, talks to me and explains everything.'

One person said they were very satisfied with the service.

Another person said, 'The service is fantastic, the staff are polite and helpful.'

One person told us that the dentist doesn't do unnecessary work and explains everything.

Three out of four people who use the service were unaware of the practice's complaints procedure but said they would be confident to share any concerns with the dentist.

We found that the practice's decontamination process was unsatisfactory and could place people at risk.

The hygiene and cleanliness of one part of the practice was of concern and we have asked the registered provider to address this.

We spoke with four people who access the practice who confirmed their satisfaction with the cleanliness and hygiene of the surgery.
