People should be safe from harm from unsafe or unsuitable equipment (outcome 11)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are not at risk of harm from unsafe or unsuitable equipment (medical and non-medical equipment, furnishings or fittings).
  • Benefit from equipment that is comfortable and meets their needs.

How this check was done

We looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service, carried out a visit on 8 March 2013, checked how people were cared for at each stage of their treatment and care and talked with people who use the service. We talked with staff and received feedback from people using comment cards.

Our judgement

People were protected from unsafe or unsuitable equipment.

Reasons for our judgement

We spoke with three patients during our inspection visit but no one made specific comments about this standard.

The practice used digital x-rays which were linked to the computer network. There was also a CT scanner on the first floor. Each of these devices is located in separate areas specifically set aside to carry this out. We looked at both of these areas and they were clean and free of any obstruction.

We asked to see the records of maintenance checks for the x-ray machine, CT scanner, two autoclaves and ultrasonic bath. The records showed that the equipment had been routinely checked, maintained and kept safe for use.
