During a routine inspection

Before people had any treatment they discussed their vein problems with Dr West who, following an examination, gave people treatment options. 'Dr West explained the veins on one leg were worse than the other, so the treatment he recommended was different. I am really pleased with the outcome. Everything has been done very professional.'

We were told that established ethical values were applied in determining the decision to offer treatment, which meant people would not be excluded if they met the criteria. People were given information on how to care for themselves following treatment to reduce the risk of any complication and to aid a speedy recovery.

Surgical procedures were conducted in a clean safe environment and people were cared for by trained staff that had been recruited properly and were of good character.

The management of risk was very good and there was an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people received. Written comments people had made included, 'After this procedure I have been able to take more exercise'I am more active and enjoying life more'. 'I am impressed with the overall results', 'Excellent service. I would definitely recommend it to someone else'. 'The service and treatment were excellent'. And, 'The clinic is a calm environment and I felt at ease with Dr West and care and kindness of a very caring nurse'.

The people who used the service told us they were happy with the standard of the service provided. They confirmed they had been given detailed information about their treatments prior to consent being sought. Some of their comments included:

'I was told all about the procedure and asked to give my consent to the treatment right at the start. I was also given written information about the procedure so I could go away and think about things. This was very comprehensive and outlined all the risks very clearly.'

'The care has been excellent. Dr West and his team are very kind and couldn't do enough for me. To start with I was very anxious, but their kindness took all that away.'

'All of the staff were very good and very knowledgeable. I spent some time with one of the nurses, she was lovely.'

'Dr West was very good and the service was very efficient. I was given literature before the procedure took place and had an initial consultation so I could ask questions. I spoke with the nurse after the procedure, she was very good and very reassuring. I have no complaints to make.'

They were very positive about all aspects of their care. They felt that they had received enough information about the clinic and their treatment. One person told us: "I don't think they could do anything better."
