During an inspection looking at part of the service

When we inspected the service on this occasion there were no patients attending the surgery for treatment.

The service was inspected in December 2012 and patients said that they were satisfied with the service provided. They thought that they had been given enough information about their treatment and about any charges they might have to pay. They said staff were courteous, friendly and helpful and they considered that their treatment had met their dental needs.

Shortfalls had been identified at the inspection in December 2012 and we returned to check that they had been addressed.

We found that there were now policies and procedures in place to protect children and adults from abuse and staff knew what he had to do if they suspected abuse.

There were more robust systems in place to prevent the risk and spread of infection.

The provider had made the environment safer to reduce the risk of injury and falls for patients and staff.

21 December 2012

During a routine inspection

Patients said that they were satisfied with the service provided. They thought that they had been given enough information about their treatment and about any charges they might have to pay. They said staff were courteous, friendly and helpful and they considered that their treatment had met their dental needs. All of the five patients with whom we spoke gave us positive feedback about the practice. One of them said, 'I've been going there for years and took my children there because the dentist is so kind and approachable. I'm completely confident about the quality of the care I get and have no complaints at all.'

However, we found there were some shortfalls that reduced the provider's ability to consistently and reliably meet patients' needs. There was no recorded system for patients to give their consent to treatment. Some of the measures used to prevent the risk and spread of infection were not rigorous. The system used to identify and resolve environmental risks to patients' safety was not robust.
