People should be cared for by staff who are properly qualified and able to do their job (outcome 12)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are safe and their health and welfare needs are met by staff who are fit, appropriately qualified and are physically and mentally able to do their job.

How this check was done

We looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service, carried out a visit on 11 July 2013, checked how people were cared for at each stage of their treatment and care and talked with people who use the service. We talked with carers and / or family members and talked with staff.

Our judgement

People were cared for, or supported by, suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff.

Reasons for our judgement

People spoken with told us there had been some recent changes in staff at the agency, but had no concerns about the new recruits.

We examined the recruitment records of two recently appointed staff and found appropriate recruitment and selection procedures were in place. The records showed all the relevant clearance checks had been carried out, prior to the recruits commencing work with the agency.

Staff spoken with indicated that appropriate recruitment processes had been carried out. This had included face to face interviews, completing application forms, obtaining references and carrying out appropriate clearance checks.
