All Inspections

During a routine inspection

On 12 September 2013, during our inspection of The Dental Practice, we spoke with five people who were seeing the dentist. All told us that they had confidence in the surgery and were very satisfied with the service they received. We needed the services of the dentist to translate our questions and/or people's responses, as English was not their first language. We also observed that people's body language and facial expressions supported the translated information we were given by the dentist. One person said, ''They are good, very good. Staff are always polite and are well trained.'' Another person told us, ''The dentist talks to me to help me decide what to do.'' Three of the people we spoke with, spontaneously told us how much they appreciated staff being able to communicate with them directly in their own language, instead of having to rely on some form of interpretation. One person said, ''The dentist uses my language to explain and I have no problems with anything.''

The surgery had sufficient processes in place to ensure that treatment was delivered safely. All areas of the building were clean and tidy and there were robust infection control processes in place to ensure people were treated safely. A complaints procedure was in place, although in practice comments were dealt with verbally, in a person's own language. Good staff records were held to ensure people received treatment from appropriately qualified and trained staff.
