During a routine inspection

We were told that most of the people who used the service were Japanese. Therefore, written information such as medical questionnaires, treatment plans and the provider's complaints policy were available in both English and Japanese. People were given sufficient information regarding their care and treatment. We saw examples of where complex treatment was required and their treatment plan provided a summary of what the dental surgeon had found and the various options available to them. It was not possible to speak to people who used the service as no one had an appointment during our inspection. However, we looked at the provider's June 2013 feedback summary report. This indicated that the 12 people surveyed were satisfied with the care they had received. One person had stated "I'm always relieved by their explanation" and all respondents found the practice to be clean.

People received care and treatment that ensured their safety and welfare from staff that received appropriate professional development. People were assessed and treated by a dental surgeon, but were referred to the relevant specialist if more complex treatment was required.

There were systems in place to prevent the spread of infection. Instruments were appropriately decontaminated and there were arrangements in place to ensure that the environment was kept clean. There was emergency equipment available to deal with medical emergencies and all staff received annual basic life support training.
