During an inspection looking at part of the service

We inspected this outcome to follow up on a compliance action set at the last inspection. The compliance action was set because although the provider had some systems for reviewing and monitoring the quality of service provided to people, these had not always been implemented effectively and action was needed to ensure the quality of service provided was monitored.

On the day of our inspection of Broadway Dental Surgery there were two dentists providing treatment, one of whom was the registered provider. We spoke with the provider, a dental nurse and two receptionists about their work.

During our inspection we also spoke with three people in order to obtain their views about the dental service they received.

All the people we spoke with expressed positive views about the surgery and the treatment they received. One person we spoke with told us the surgery was, 'Very good', and another individual described the surgery as, 'Wonderful' and added, 'The quality of treatment is excellent'.

At this inspection we found that the provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people received.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people about their experiences of the service. All were complimentary about the service they and their families received. One person told us "I have been a patient here for a few years now, I think the service and treatment is good".

With one person's permission we observed a consultation. We also looked at dental records and other records kept by the provider.

People were given appropriate information and support regarding their care and told us they understood the choices available to them. We saw the dentist explain treatment options to them.

People experienced care and treatment that met their needs. Treatment was planned and delivered in line with individual treatment plans, with attention to people's safety and welfare.

There were arrangements in place to deal with medical emergencies. People told us that their families had no difficulty getting emergency appointments.

The provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent it from happening.

People were protected from the risk of infection. They were cared for in a clean environment.

The provider had some systems for reviewing and monitoring the quality of service provided to people, but these had not always been implemented effectively and action was needed to ensure the quality of service provided was monitored.
