All Inspections

16 December 2013

During a routine inspection

We spoke with five patients who received treatment on the day of our visit, or their supporters if they were not able to speak with us themselves. Each patient was satisfied with the service they had received. No one had any concerns about their care and treatment.

One patient's supporter said 'They're very good here and they have a good way with the residents.' Another patient's supporter also told us the service was good. They added 'It helps that they understand the needs of people who come here.' One patient said they received 'A good service, and it's all on the NHS.' Two other patients we spoke with were also pleased with the service they received. In each case, patients or their supporters said any treatment or proposed courses of action had been explained to them. This helped patients to make choices about their care.

We found appropriate records were being kept of patients' treatment. Patients or those supporting them had signed treatment records. The service was equipped to deal with emergencies and staff had received training in basic life support.

Effective infection control practices were in place. The premises were clean and well maintained. Staff had received training on infection control and thorough decontamination procedures were used.

There were enough staff to meet patients' needs. We observed staff were friendly and helpful to patients and took time to explain things to them. Staff had maintained professional registration with the General Dental Council. We saw they had undertaken training to be able to support patients appropriately, such as the Mental Capacity Act (2005) and safeguarding people from abuse.
