All Inspections

1 August 2012

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We carried out an inspection in March 2012 and found that the service needed to make improvements in its arrangements for the decontamination of instruments and in relation to fire safety.

The purpose of this inspection on 1 August 2012 was to check compliance in these areas. We looked at key outcomes for people relating to cleanliness and infection control; and the safety and suitability of the premises. We spoke with four people that had appointments for treatment, four staff including dental nurses, the practice manager and provider.

The provider had achieved compliance in both of the outcomes that we previously had concerns about. This was supported by the comments four people made about their experiences at the dental practice.

People told us that there had been a lot of improvements to the premises and furniture. For example, one person's opinion was that 'They must have spent thousands here. The toilet was much more accessible'.

With regard to infection control, people commented that 'It's all new and clean and tidy'.

We highlighted to the provider that policies and procedures should have been dated and include a date for review. However, this was easily rectified and did not affect the overall compliance judgements.

8 February 2012

During a routine inspection

People who use the service told us they received good treatment and clear explanations. One person said 'The treatment I have received here has been absolutely excellent'. Another person said the 'Treatment is excellent'.

People we spoke with told us staff were helpful and polite when people were assisted with their enquiries and the treatment they received.

People who use the service told us they were able to make routine appointments easily. People told us if they required an emergency appointment, the practice usually provided this within 48 hours after their request was made.

We found the service needs to make improvements in its arrangements for the decontamination of instruments and fire safety.
