During an inspection in response to concerns

We visited this service as we had concerns brought to our attention that a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check had not been undertaken for a member of staff prior to their employment.

We did not obtain any comments from people using the service with regards to this outcome area.

Cheshire West and Chester Social Services had no current information to provide around this outcome area.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with people who use the services and other people who were either next of kin or representatives of people who use the service. We asked their views about how they are involved in making decisions about their care, support and treatment and how the service is run.

All people said they were very much respected by staff. They said that staff visited them and asked them about their needs prior to the service commencing They said staff asked them what name they preferred to be called. People said their privacy and dignity was respected and staff always treated them well.

People told us they were provided with documentation about the service to include the agencies aims and objectives and plans of care which they kept in their homes.

People said that staff support them to make decisions for themselves and assist them to plan their care to make sure they were able to maximise dignity, privacy and independence.

Comments included '

'I am very satisfied with the way my services have been arranged. I have been consulted with about everything, this makes me feel good'.

'Staff ask me what I want every time they call, they are kind and caring and go the extra mile for me'.

'I know who will be calling, when they will call and what they will do'.

People said that staff are consistent and reliable and kind and caring.

We spoke with relatives of people who use the service and they said that staff understood the individual care, treatment and support needs and discussed any issues or areas of concern. They said staff made them aware of updates to care plans and worked with them to find out how changing needs would be met.

We asked the people using the agency about the choice and control they have over their daily lives. People said that they choose their own daily routine as to when to get up, choice of meals throughout the day, support with personal care, and are supported to manage their own affairs when possible, for example manage their own money or medication.

People using the service said they were very happy with the staff and services provided.

One person said they were very satisfied with the services provided and they felt included in the decision making about what care was needed and of how it would be delivered.

Another person said they had received care and support services in the past and had no reason to complain but revealed that having changed to this agency, staff and care practices had exceeded expectations, they are excellent.

One person said that staff understand every person's individual need and are therefore able to provide the appropriate level of care and support to everyone.

All people spoken with said staff were kind and supportive and looked after them well and provided consistent well planned services. People we spoke with said they felt safe and well treated by agency staff.

One person said staff had provided information about the agency policies about how staff should behave toward them including how they should deal with medication and money matters.

People spoken with said they know who to speak to and how to report any concerns if they are unhappy with the service.

One person said they felt that staff are trained and supported to carry out safe working practices.

People we spoke with said the agency staff were well trained and knew what they were doing.

One person said the staff could not be better," I can't fault them. They know what they are doing and they are always nice to me'.

Other comments included I am very satisfied with the service; staff know their jobs and are very kind and competent.

I get a good consistency of care carried out by people who are good at what they do.

People said they were always being asked if everything was all right and if they wanted anything to be changed.
