All Inspections

7 February 2012

During a routine inspection

We spoke with one person who was able to communicate verbally. The other people who use the service communicate through non-verbal methods. We observed care practices in order to find out about their experiences.

A person using the service told us that most of the time they felt listened to and involved in their care. They also told us that most of the time staff were polite, respected their privacy and treated them with respect. We observed positive interactions between staff and people using the service. People were given a choice in respect of the activities they wished to take part in and had a busy schedule of activites.

People using the service looked well cared for, were relaxed and showed signs of well-being. We asked a person using the service if they felt safe living at the home, to which they answered 'yes'. They confirmed that they felt that they would be able to talk to staff if there was anything worrying them.

We asked a person using the service if there were sufficient numbers of staff on duty to support them. They answered 'yes mostly there are enough staff here to support me'. On the morning of our visit, there were three support staff working in the home, and three staff members on duty in the afternoon supporting five people. The staffing levels enabled people to be supported out in the community to attend their programme of activities.

We asked a person what it was like to live at the home, and they told us 'alright, very nice'. Staff were attentive and demonstrated a good understanding of people's needs and provided a good standard of care.
