During a routine inspection

The person using the service told us they had a care plan and they had been involved in deciding how their care and support needs would be met. Referring to the registered provider the person using the service said 'My carer looks after me very well'. They said they went to lots of activities and had been on holidays. They said they shopped for food with the registered provider and picked out what foods they liked to eat. They said they knew how to make a complaint because the registered provider had explained the complaints procedure to them.

The local authority that placed the person at the home said they had carried out a review of the placement and they were satisfied with the standard of the care provided. At the time of the review the home was meeting the person's needs and they were happy living there.

During a routine inspection

We spoke to two people who use the service. One person told us that they can speak to the manager about what happens in the home and know that what they say is taken on board.

Both people told us that staff treat them with respect and dignity and their privacy is always respected.

One person told us 'I have a care plan and I know what's in the care plan because I helped to write it up, I have a good social life, I go out a lot in the local area, I get to do sports, go to clubs, day centres and go to Church'. They told us that they had regular contact with health care professionals to discuss their health care needs.

Both told us that they felt safe at the home and knew who to speak to if they had concerns about their treatment or care. They told us that they can talk to the registered provider or their partner about any concerns and they were confident they would always take their concerns seriously and would do something about them. They told us that if they had a complaint they knew the procedure to be followed and would do so if they needed to.

They told us that they were satisfied with the overall comfort and appearance of the home. One person using the respite service told us, 'I like living here it's a nice place, I would like to stay here permanently, and I am trying to sort this out with the registered provider and my care manager'.
