During a routine inspection

The service supported 30 people with learning disabilities living in the community. We spoke with five of those who received a service and the parents of two other people. Additionally we spoke with the registered manager, service manager and three of the six support staff. We looked at records including: peoples support files, staff recruitment and training records, and notifications. We looked at the systems for managing complaints and monitoring quality assurance.

People we spoke with liked the staff who worked with them. They found them capable, and thought they had the right skills for the job. They said that staff respected their privacy and dignity when in their home. Six out of seven people we spoke with thought that the service was helping them towards greater independence.

Staff told us that they thought there was always enough staff available and that staff were generally on time and always stayed the required length of time, even if late.

People said they felt safe when staff came to work with them in their flats. In discussion staff demonstrated an awareness of safeguarding matters and other legislation, to maintain the safety and confidentiality of people they worked with.

People understood how to make complaints and express their concerns. We saw that actions were taken to address these. People were asked for their views about the service, and there was evidence that their feedback was analysed and used to inform service quality.
