During a routine inspection

There were six people living there on the day of our inspection. We spoke with four people who lived there, five members of staff and the registered manager.

We saw good interactions between people who lived there and staff. We observed that people were at ease in the company of staff. One person told us, 'I like all the staff and they help me.'

We saw that people's needs had been assessed by a range of health professionals and people's healthcare needs had been monitored and met.

Systems were in place to ensure that people were safeguarded from harm and the risk of abuse.

Staff had the skills and knowledge to know how to safely support people who lived there to meet their needs. Staff told us that they were well supported in their role and this helped them to know how to support people who lived there.

People were asked for their views about the home and these were listened to. One person told us, 'We can choose what we do and where we go, staff listen to me.' We saw that audits were completed and action was taken to make improvements where needed.

During an inspection in response to concerns

Our inspection was unannounced, which meant that no one knew that we would be visiting. There were six people living at the home on the day of our inspection. We spoke with three people living there, the manager and one member of staff to find out their views about the service provided.

We visited because we had received concerns from an anonymous person who told us that people's health needs were not being met, food was not nutritious and healthy, medicine management systems were disorganised and risks to people's safety and welfare were not managed appropriately.

Staff knew how to support people to meet their health needs. People were referred to health professionals for advice as to how to meet their needs. We saw that staff followed this advice to ensure people's well being.

People told us they were happy living at the home and liked the staff. One person said, "It's alright here, the staff are good."

People had a healthy diet of their choice and were supported to go shopping to buy food. People told us they had choices about what they ate and drank and that fruit was always available if they wanted it. One person said, " I can have fruit when I want it."

People received their medicines as prescribed by their doctor to ensure their health needs were met.

People were asked for their views about the home and these were listened to. Audits were completed and action taken where needed to make improvements to ensure people's safety and welfare.

During a routine inspection

Five people were living in the home when we visited. We spoke with three of them about their experience of living there. The other two people were unable to tell us about their experiences due to their learning disability, so we spent time observing the support they received from staff. We also spoke with three members of staff and the manager. We looked at some of the home's records and two records of people who lived there.

People's privacy and dignity were respected. We saw staff knocking on people's doors and waiting for an answer before entering. People told us they could spend time alone in their bedroom when they wanted to.

People received care and support that met their individual needs. One person said, "The staff are alright, I chose my key worker." Another person told us, "I like everything here, the staff are all good to me." We saw that staff supported individuals in the way that was written in their care plan.

We found that if people were unwell or needed extra support, staff supported them to see the relevant health professionals. We saw a member of staff checking that a doctor's appointment had been made for one person as the person had requested this the day before.

Staff supported people to go out and do the things they enjoyed. One person said, "We go out for meals sometimes in the evenings and we often go shopping and choose what food we want."

We saw that people were encouraged to be independent. One person said, " I make my own drinks." We saw that people made their own drinks and helped staff with jobs around the house.

People told us they felt safe living at the home. We saw that staff had received training in how to safeguard people from harm and they showed they knew how to do this.

Staff told us the manager supported them. We saw that staff received the training they needed to know how to support the people living there.

We saw that the people living there and their relatives were asked for their views about the home. People told us that they knew how to complain if they were unhappy but had not needed to do this.
