During a routine inspection

This service provided support to five people with mental health needs living in their own homes. During our inspection we spoke with two people who used the service, they were not able to have detailed conversation with us due to their communication needs. The service employed two support workers. We spoke with one support worker, the deputy manager, two mental health professionals and the manager of a sheltered scheme that support some of the people that used the service.

All the people that we spoke with said that they received the care that they needed. One person told us, 'I am happy with my carer.' We found that people received care and treatment that met their needs.

All the people that used the service told us that they felt safe with the support workers that visited them. People were cared for, or supported by staff that were suitable recruited.

All the people that we spoke with had no complaint or concerns about the service they received. There was an effective complaints system available.

All the people that we spoke with were happy with the care and support they received. The provider did not have an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people received.

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we spoke with two people who used the service, a support worker and the provider's representative who was present at the inspection.

The two people who used the service that we spoke with told us that staff treated them with respect and dignity. Staff gave us good examples of how they supported people to maintain their independence and dignity.

People said they received the care that they needed. One person told us, 'The carer is alright and I am happy with the service.' However we found that the provider did not assess people's needs and plan their care so as to ensure that people received safe care.

People told us that they felt safe with the support workers that visited them. We found that systems were in place to ensure people were safeguarded from abuse.

People said that they were treated well by their support worker. One person said, 'He has been a good carer, so long as I have had him.' We found that staff were trained and supported to deliver care to an appropriate standard.

People we spoke with were happy with the care. However we found that the provider did not have a robust system in place to monitor the quality of the service, to ensure that people received safe care.
