During a routine inspection

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people who used the service. We spoke with three people who used the service and visitors of two people. We carried out observations in the communal areas of the home and used the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a specific way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us.

When we observed the care provided we saw that people who used the service were given choices which supported and enabled them to make their own decisions. We also observed that care workers spent meaningful time with people and that care workers were aware of particular individual needs.

We spoke with three people who used the service. They told us that 'we have a choice of things to do' and 'my x is able to tell them and me about the care I need'. One person told us that they were moving to a bigger room and that this would suit their needs better.

During our observations we saw that care workers helped people with their care and social needs. Care workers were considerate to people's abilities and treated them respectfully and maintained their dignity. People told us 'staff look after me.' and 'you only have to ask once'.

We spoke with people who told us 'the staff are lovely, so kind and helpful', 'there is always someone around' and 'one person has worked here for over 20 years, it must be a good place to work'. Visitors that we spoke with told us 'we are always made to feel welcome' and 'you don't have to wait if you request something'.
