All Inspections

During a routine inspection

We spoke with the manager for this service. On the day of the inspection no diagnostic staff were present. We have spoken with one member of the diagnostic team following the inspection. We tried to contact another member of the diagnostic team but without success.

We have not been able to speak with patients' using the service because mobile diagnostic services are provided in a number of locations. We gathered evidence of patients' experiences by reviewing a summary report of patient satisfaction responses. We also reviewed two patients' completed 'patient satisfaction questionnaires'. This information showed us that there were systems in place to capture patients' experiences of the service and the care and treatment they had received. One patient comment identified in the patient survey was, ' The staff were excellent - very friendly, polite and helpful. They made the experience much more comfortable than it would have been without them.'

There was evidence of close working amongst healthcare professionals to ensure patients' needs were met and risks identified prior to scans being undertaken.

There was support and training available to ensure that diagnostic staff skills had been kept updated. We saw staff training records and noted that mandatory training sessions had been completed by staff. Staff received yearly appraisals and some staff had received supervision.

During a routine inspection

Alliance Medical Limited provides magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanning, computerised tomography (CT) scanning, dual energy X-ray (DEXA), Xray and positron emission tomography ' computed tomography (PET/CT) scanning. Referral to the service is made by healthcare professionals and is available to both NHS and privately funded patients.

As part of this review we requested information from Alliance Medical Services about the service they offered. We also met with the registered manager of the mobile services. We saw from the documentation received that people had been provided with good information about the service and their treatment had been clearly explained. They were able to ask questions and stated that all stages right through the scanning process were 'thoroughly explained.'

We did not speak directly to people who had used the service but we did review the results of recent patient satisfaction surveys undertaken across various sites. The surveys indicated that people were positive about their experience. Some of the comments received include:

'Staff were very professional and friendly. Also, very speedy process and I was clear about what was happening.'

'Staff kept checking I was ok throughout and was at ease with the scan. Staff were nice and caring.'

'Cleanliness of the unit and treatment by staff was exceptional.'

'The staff make you feel very relaxed and put your mind at rest.'
