During a routine inspection

We spoke with ten people who used the service. The all told us that they were happy with the service they received. One person told us that the carers enabled them to remain in their own home which meant a lot to them. Another said they felt very lucky, they got on well with their carers and always got the same people. People told us that staff were 'very good', 'excellent' and 'delightful'. They said that they were nearly always on time and stayed for the right amount of time. People told us they were involved in decisions about their care and support.

We spoke with six members of staff who told us of the importance of respecting people's wishes and preferences. They told us that they knew most of the people they supported well. They also said that if they were any changes in care or support needs then they were updated by the office.

Staff told us that they felt supported and said that communication with the office and management was 'very good.' They confirmed that they had regular training.

30 November 2012

During an inspection looking at part of the service

On this occasion we did not speak to people who used the service. We did speak with two members of staff who both told us that they felt that support for staff had improved since our last inspection. They said that all staff were now aware of the supervision and appraisal process.

We found that the system for ensuring the correct pre-employment checks had been completed before staff were made available for work had improved and was now robust.

We also found that the training was organised and completed in timely manner. A weekly report identified which staff members needed training, spot checks, supervisions or appraisal and this was monitored by the care co-ordinator.
