During a routine inspection

We spoke with six people who lived at the home and two people used assistive technology to tell us about living at the home. One person told us of their preparation for their holiday with their partner who also lived at the home. This person also told us about the recent baking they did.

People we spoke with said they made their own decisions and they told us they had support to make financial decisions. Four people told us they were having independent skills training to become more independent. These individuals had their own goals and these ranged from leaving the home unescorted to living independently. One person had made the decision to move from the main house into supported living accommodation and with the support of the staff was living independently.

People told us the staff did not pressurise them to change their minds if they refused. One person told us they had refused to do an activity and was not put under pressure to participate.

People told us their main meal was provided by the catering staff and they prepared all other meals and refreshments. We saw there were four small kitchens for people to prepare their breakfasts, snacks, refreshments and light meals. Two people told us preparing and cooking their meals was part of their independence living training.

People told us there was enough staff for them to do the activities they wanted to do.

People told us they knew how to complain. Two people told us they had complained and one person told us their complaint had been resolved to their satisfaction. Another person told us there had been miscommunication when they complained and the deputy manager would be investigating this comment.

People who spoke with us were able to discuss their life at the home and what they enjoyed about living there.

People said they appreciated having their own rooms, and being able to choose how they were decorated. One person told us "I chose all my furniture. I love my room'.

People told us they liked living at the home. All the people we spoke with told us they were happy with their decision to live at the home. One person told us "I like living here. We are all get on. We argue sometimes, but it's fine".

Two people who used the service told us they felt safe at the home and that staff were "lovely".

A staff member told us "we are all like a community here. Some staff have worked here many years". We looked at the activity chart and saw on four days there were no planned activities. The provider may find it useful to note that there were limited activities for people. This meant that people did not have enough stimulation or entertainment to maintain their wellbeing.

The deputy told us 'we will review these records so we are writing more about people's experiences
