Our inspection on the 30th May 2013 found that staff and people who used the service lived and worked together in a homely setting. We looked at the care plans of people who used the service and their nutritional needs; we saw that on the day of our visit a chef was making a traditional Caribbean dinner. One person we spoke with told us, "I like oranges best". We looked to see if people were protected against the risk of abuse and they were. We found the premises were clean and well maintained and that staff were friendly and approachable. Staff we spoke with told us, 'You are supported to do your job well'.

We talked with people who used the service about what they had been doing and saw that people were going out on visits and others sitting in the kitchen talking to staff. One person told us, 'They liked to go to the shops during the day'.

We spoke with one man using the service on our visit. He showed us his room and the things he had bought for his birthday on a recent shopping trip with a member of staff. We saw the men moving about the house and going out to the local shop. They looked at home and were at ease talking to members of staff.
