During a routine inspection

Four people told us about the service. One person said that they were happy at Stratford Lodge and they were looked after well. Another person was going out to the shop. They said that they like to go shopping independently and they went to the youth club. Two people told us about their personal plans. They said that these included targets that they had agreed with staff to help them to work towards becoming more independent. One person said that the staff were very good and they had good support. They also said that the food was very good and there was lots of choice.

People told us that they had personal plans and that they had consented to the support in these plans. When students were not at an age to consent for themselves their parents consented on their behalf.

The students had comprehensive personal plans to help them to work towards independence. They also had risk assessments so that any risks to themselves or to others were managed safely.

The staff had all the right checks before they started work, to make sure they were suitable to work with people. They were suitably qualified and experienced.

All the necessary records were being kept. These were up-to-date and accurate so that people received the right support and were kept safe. Records were locked away to protect people's confidentiality.

During a routine inspection

People told us they were very happy with the service they received. They were able to make decisions about their daily lives and be involved in the general running of the home. Their rights to privacy, dignity and independence were fully maintained. People attended various further education establishments and had regular access to a range of social and leisure opportunities. People could make their own referral to therapeutic services as required and were seen without delay. People and their families were able to confidently raise a concern if required. They felt they would be listened to and any issue would be effectively addressed. People felt safe within the home and staff were very aware of their responsibilities to recognise and report an allegation of abuse. People were well supported by a trained and competent staff group who had access to ongoing training, supervision and professional development. There were comprehensive quality assurance systems in place which ensured all areas of the home were maintained to a high standard.
