All Inspections

7 December 2012

During a routine inspection

We previously inspected this service in July 2012 and a compliance action was set for outcome 16. The purpose of this inspection was to review the improvements made, and we have judged that the service is now compliant with this outcome.

Some people were able to tell us what it was like spending time and living short term at Wellhay. People's comments included; "they are nice to me the food is beautiful", " I like the food, I used to work up the road I had a good job". Another person told us 'I do feel safe here I like it here".

People appeared relaxed and at ease in their own environment. Staff were observed interacting with people, on a one to one basis and as a larger group in a calm and sensitive manner.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with six people staying in the home. They were able to tell us about their experience. All of those we spoke with were very positive about the care they received, "whenever we want help they (staff) are there to help you", and "staff are very good, there is always something going on". One person told us, "I enjoy coming here it is the best place in Bristol". Another person told us how friendly and kind staff were, "nothing is too much trouble for them".

We also spent time observing staff and noted that they interacted in a positive and supportive manner. They were able to re-assure and support those that were agitated or distressed. Staff had an understanding of individuals and the difficulties they may experience because of their dementia.
