During an inspection looking at part of the service

People who use the service told us that they liked living at The Shieling and that they felt that they were well looked after there. People commented on the repairs and improvements to the environment which had taken place and were pleased about these. Some people also told us that things were much better now that one particular person had left the home because this made them feel safer. One person said, 'I like it here, they are good.'

People spoke positively about the staff group. One person said 'They help me sort everything out and make sure I can see my family'. Another person described the staff group as 'very good. They really help us.' One person was seen engaging with a member of staff in a way which showed they trusted them and had confidence that they would understand what they needed.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

During this inspection we did not speak directly to people who use the service about the care and support they were receiving at the home. Instead we talked to staff on duty, looked around the building and examined some documentation associated with people's health, care and well being.

During an inspection in response to concerns

Many of the people who use the service could not tell us directly about their care due to them having a variety of complex care needs. However, one person told us they get 'help from staff with their money when they need it'. One person told us they were 'going shopping'. Another person told us they have choice about 'what they do each day'.

People told us they liked living at the home. We observed activities taking place in the lounge and dining room, which included listening to music, watching TV and drawing. People who used the service were chatting to each other and to staff.

One person told us they 'were happy here'. Another person told us they 'don't want to change anything about the home'.
