People's personal records, including medical records, should be accurate and kept safe and confidential (outcome 21)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Their personal records including medical records are accurate, fit for purpose, held securely and remain confidential.
  • Other records required to be kept to protect their safety and well being are maintained and held securely where required.

How this check was done

Our judgement

We found that the provider was meeting the essential standard of safety and quality in respect of records.

User experience

People who live at the home told us that they are involved in developing and monitoring their own care plan and have access to the records, which they regularly contribute to. No issues were raised regarding confidentiality or safe storage of records.

Other evidence

The nurse in charge told us all care records were kept locked securely in line with the Data Protection Act 1998. Records were regularly updated to ensure staff have updated care records and people who live at the home are continually monitored.

General records to help the running of the home are kept in a locked facility and available for inspection if required.

During the visit we looked at a number of records maintained by staff. These appeared to be well maintained, accurate and stored securely
