During a routine inspection

We saw before people received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes. The people we spoke with told us they decided things and staff respected their decisions.

People's needs were assessed and care and treatment had been planned and delivered as they preferred. One person told us, 'My privacy is respected by the staff and I am always treated with dignity, as a human being'.

People were provided with a choice of suitable and nutritious food and drink. The people we spoke with said they enjoyed the meals they received and told us menus provided variety and choice.

We saw there were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection.

Staff received appropriate professional development. The staff we spoke with felt they were well trained and supported. We saw they had access to a varied training programme that helped them meet the needs of the people they supported.

There were systems in place to gain people's views and check if staff were following company policies.

We saw the complaints procedure was available to people who used and visited the service. People told us they had no complaints, but said they would feel comfortable taking any concerns to the manager.

During a routine inspection

People told us they were happy with the care and support they received and felt the home was a safe place to live. We saw that they were offered choice and staff respected their privacy and dignity while encouraging them to be as independent as possible. One person told us, 'I can't say anything wrong about them, they are all very caring.' A relative commented, 'The staff are lovely, we visit at all times of the day and evening and there always seems to be enough staff around.'

Some people said they were happy with the social activities and stimulation provided at the home while others felt it was an area that could be improved. One person told us, 'There's not a lot to do.' During our visit we saw some people taking part in a sing a long in the morning and playing bingo in the afternoon. However there was no planned programme of activities that reflected information seen in people's care records.

No-one raised any concerns with us during our visit. People told us they felt confident taking any concerns to the manager or any of the staff. One person said, 'I would recommend this home to anyone, they are very good.' Another person said, 'I have no complaints they are very good to me.'
