During a routine inspection

People told us that they were happy living at Fairholme. People told us that they enjoyed a range of leisure and social activities, both at home and in the local community. The level of support people required varied and this was accommodated by the staff. People commented that they were consulted about how they liked tasks to be done. People told us their privacy and dignity was respected.

Staff met people's care and support needs in ways that they preferred and we saw that detailed records gave staff the information that they required to do this. Plans were in place to support people to enjoy their lives and staff were aware of risks, people's rights and their responsibilities.

People were protected because staff were confident about how to recognise and report abuse.

People were supported by a knowledgeable and well trained staff team who knew their care and support needs. We saw that staff dealt with people in a very positive way. People told us that staff always attended to them promptly and calls bells were always answered. People said that the staff were competent and always acted professionally.

People who used the service said they felt able to raise any issues or complaints they had with the staff. The service provided complaint leaflets in the home which gave details of how to use the process. The provider had systems in place to log and respond to complaints and monitor trends.

During a routine inspection

We spent three and a half hours at the home. We spoke to four people who use the service and one relative about the care their relative receives and their view about the quality of care given.

People we spoke to told us they were happy with the care they receive and that the staff are "all very good".

People told us that the meals are of a good standard and that they are always given a choice.

People told us they were happy with the laundry service.

People told us they were happy with their bedrooms and that the home is kept clean and tidy.

We were told there always seem to be enough staff on duty and that staff are kind and helpful.

We were told by people living at the home that they are able to choose how they spend their day and there are no imposed 'rules' at the home.

One person told us they like to look after Sparky the budgie that lives at the home.

A relative told us that the communication from the home is good and that they are kept up to date with any changes in their relative's condition and that they know when the Doctor has been.
