People and their relatives had been encouraged to become involved in life at the home and contribute to the running of the home. People who could express a view told us staff treated them respectfully and with dignity. One person told us 'Staff look after us well and always treat me in a dignified way.'

Before people received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes.

Risks to people's health and welfare were assessed and care was planned and delivered according to people's needs. The provider worked in cooperation with other health and social care professionals to ensure people's needs had been met.

Arrangements were in place to ensure that people were protected from the risk of abuse. One person told us 'I couldn't live in a safer place. I have the utmost trust in all of the staff.'

People who lived at the home received care, treatment and support from staff that are competent to carry out their role. The quality of the service at the home was monitored frequently and effectively.

This service caters for people with age related cognitive and physical difficulties. On the day of the site visit there were sixteen people in residence.

People said they signed their care plans or their relatives signed on their behalf. This meant that people were involved in deciding their care and gave their consent for care to be carried out as documented in the care plan. Three of the four people we spoke with told us they knew they had a care plan. One person said, 'I give them permission to look after me, and I sign the form to show I agree with my care'. Another person said, 'All matters to do with my care are taken care of by my family'.

The three care plans we looked at, each had a Do Not Attempt Resuscitation (DNAR) notice included in the care plans. We noticed however, that copies of the best interest meetings were not included.

One person said, 'The food is very nice and nicely cooked. It is well done. They know what I like and do not like'. Another person said, 'I get enough food'.

We saw systems in place that ensured medicines were administered safely.

People told us they received their medicines on time. They said they had never had to make a complaint.

Relatives told us that they were happy with the care and support they were receiving and that their relative's needs were being met in all areas. They said that the staff treated them with respect, listened to them and supported them to raise any concerns they had about their care. They told us that the service responded to their relative's health needs quickly and that the manager talked to them regularly and kept them informed of any issues.
