During a routine inspection

We spoke with two of the six people who used the service and with a relative of another person who used the service. The two people who used the service told us that they enjoyed living at Willowbrook. The relative, who told us they visited Willowbrook often, was very complimentary about the service. They told us, "This is just the right place for my relative. The staff understand his needs. He has improved lots since being here. He has a constructive life here, his personal routines help him. I've been very involved, I've been kept informed of everything."

We found that people had been involved in decisions about how they were supported and understood, some with the help of relatives, the support that was available. Each person's care plan was focused on helping people achieve as much independence as possible. Staff supported people with stimulating and meaningful activities in the home and in the community. The service had its own minibus to take people on day trips to places they wanted to visit.

We found from looking at training records that the provider had ensured that staff had received relevant training to be able to support the people who used the service. A care worker we spoke with told us, "The training has given me an insight. It has helped me understand the people I support."

We identified weaknesses in the management of medicines which the provider had also recently identified and was addressing.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with one of the people who used the service at the time of our inspection. They told us that they felt that they were well looked after. They told us that there were enough activities that kept them occupied during the day. They liked their room and felt safe at the home. That person had been active in the day and we saw that a care worker had supported them with creative and meaningful activities. Staff had arranged activities for that person for the weekend after our visit which the person told us they were very much looking forward to.

Documented evidence we looked at for other people at the home showed that they too had similar positive experiences of the service. All of the people who used the service had been supported to be as independent as possible. All of the people had participated with the support of staff in activities that were of personal interest to them both in the home and in the community.

During a routine inspection

People told us they had a good relationship with staff employed at Willowbrook. There were no restrictions on how people wanted to spend their day and their visitors were always made to feel welcome and offered a hot drink. People felt safe living at Willowbrook and could speak to staff about any concerns they may have.
