During a routine inspection

People told us that they were very happy with the care and support provided at Ross Court. They said that staff were, "extremely kind" and, "always take such care to make sure we have everything we need". We saw that staff were kind and caring in the way that they supported people. Staff made sure that people were given the opportunity to make decisions for themselves.

Each person had a care plan which clearly described the support that they needed. The care plans had been discussed with people and their families. Care plans were regularly reviewed and were updated as people's needs changed.

People had many opportunities for social and leisure activities. The home was an active part of the local community.

The home had robust recruitment procedures. All the required checks were carried out before new staff started working at the home. New staff were given a thorough induction, so that they gained the skills and knowledge they needed for their work.

There was an effective system for monitoring the quality of the service. This included regular opportunities for people living at the home to give their views.

We spoke with four people living at the home, and with relatives who were visiting. We also spoke with staff and the manager. People told us 'it's so lovely here' and 'this is my home and you couldn't wish for a better place to be'.

We saw that staff were respectful and kind to people. People told us that the staff were "extremely kind" and "wonderfully helpful". People told us that staff responded promptly to any requests. We saw that staff were attentive to people's needs. People were being encouraged to be as independent as possible.

People told us that they enjoyed the activities and entertainment at the home. Care records gave staff the information they would need to provide support for people. People's needs and preferences were clearly recorded. Staff showed a good knowledge of each person's needs, and their likes and dislikes.

People described the home as "welcoming" and "just like a five star hotel". They told us that they were confident that the staff would take care of their needs. Records showed that staff had received a range of training to support them in their roles.

Medicines were stored safely, but some aspects of the management of medicines were not always managed safely at the home.

People told us that they knew who to talk to if they had any concerns about the service. One person said "I'd always have a chat with the manager if I had anything I wanted to tell her about".
