People should be cared for by staff who are properly qualified and able to do their job (outcome 12)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are safe and their health and welfare needs are met by staff who are fit, appropriately qualified and are physically and mentally able to do their job.

How this check was done

We looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service, carried out a visit on 28 November 2013, talked with people who use the service and talked with carers and / or family members. We talked with staff.

Our judgement

People were cared for, or supported by, suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff.

Reasons for our judgement

Appropriate checks were undertaken before staff began work.

We looked at the staff files for four staff members. We saw that each file included the appropriate information. This included an application form, written references, a record of a criminal records check, training certificates and interview notes.

We spoke with three staff members about the recruitment process and all confirmed that they had been given a formal interview, provided contact details for references and completed a criminal records application.
