People should be safe from harm from unsafe or unsuitable equipment (outcome 11)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are not at risk of harm from unsafe or unsuitable equipment (medical and non-medical equipment, furnishings or fittings).
  • Benefit from equipment that is comfortable and meets their needs.

How this check was done

Our judgement

The agency takes steps to ensure that the equipment required is provided and that careworkers are trained in how to use it and support users. On the basis of the evidence provided and the views of people using the service we found the service to be compliant with this outcome.

User experience

One user of service shared an example of how the carer was trained in the use of a medical equipment by the district nurse.

Other evidence

The provider informed us that where equipment is used by user of service, it will be provided by either them or by an external agency. Its use and appropriateness is identified by the care worker and details of this are documented. If training on the use of this equipment is required, it is given prior to its use. One staff shared such an example with us. Care workers are also trained at induction on equipment use.
