During an inspection looking at part of the service

At our last inspection in March 2013, the provider was found non-compliant with this essential standard. We found that the written care files held in the provider's office were not always up to date and some assessments had not been dated and a review had not been documented.

We looked at the paper and electronic records for two people who used the service. We found these records to be accurate and up to date. They reflected people's needs and had been reviewed regularly and signed appropriately. A staff supervision schedule had been put in place. This showed the supervisions for all members of staff for the whole year. We found that the provider had implemented their action plan in full and was now compliant in this essential outcome.

During a routine inspection

We spoke to four people who used the service, four relatives and four live in staff during the inspection. When asking one person if they decided on how their care was delivered and if they made daily choices they said "oh certainly I do, I am in charge" and another said "it is up to me, how things are done". Relatives also agreed they were given appropriate information and were made aware of their options. People responsible for paying the fees told us they received clear information about this. The care being provided was meeting people's needs. One person receiving care said "I am more than happy". A relative said "we are very happy with the care". Staff recruitment processes were robust and there were additional arrangements in place to ensure people were protected from abuse. Staff were trained and supoprted to deliver care safely. Care records were not maintained appropriately and required updating.
