During a routine inspection

People who used the service told us that "the staff are wonderful" and that they were very happy at the home. They also told us that their views were listened to and that their consent was asked for. People who were unable to give consent let their wishes and feelings known through gestures which the staff acted upon. People were able to direct how they wanted to be supported and said that they were treated with dignity and respect.

Relatives told us that they were asked for their comments and that any concerns were dealt with quickly. Relatives said that, "she gets very good care here and I can talk to them, I can speak to the keyworker and the manager is very good." Another relative told us, "any issues and you just mention it once and it is done."

Only trained staff were allowed to give medication and the management checked that this was given correctly. A member of staff said, "Some of the medication is very important and we are not allowed to be distracted" With reference to the administration of medicines.

Staff said that they were supported by the management team and had regular supervision. Staff told us that, "the manager makes sure that it is done to the best of our ability and makes sure that proper things are in place." Staff also told us that they were also supported by their colleagues and were able to sit down with their colleagues and talk about things .

The provider carried out checks on the way that the service was delivered by speaking with people and checking that tasks were done when they were supposed to be done.

During a routine inspection

We found that people who use services had a say in how their care was provided, and that their views and those of people who supported them were considered in the planning and delivery of care. We found that people were supported to be involved in the community by taking part in activities that were important to them. People were supported to use their time in education and volunteering in the local community. We found that the cultural needs of people were met and that they received care in a respectful and dignified way.

We found that people were safe and that there were policy and procedures to protect people from abuse. There were sufficient staff to meet the needs of people who use the service. The management team monitored the quality of the service provided and had an oversight of the service, implementing changes to the delivery of care when required.

People using the service said they loved the home and the staff. Relatives said that "they were the best staff and that they were always willing to go the extra mile."

During a routine inspection

During our visit to Rela Goldhill Lodge we spent most of the time observing and talking to people using the service to gain their views about what it was like living in the home.

People using the service and visitors told us they were satisfied with the care and support staff provided. We noted from records and conversation with people that people's individual needs including faith, diet, gender, ethnic background and medical needs had been identified and appropriate support put in place for them.

People told us they were well looked after and they could talk to staff about their care. They told us they had key workers with whom they regularly met and talked about their care and treatment.

The home had procedures and processes for ensuring people's safety and well-being. People who use the service indicated to us that they felt safe living at the home. They told they could speak to staff if they had concerns. We observed positive interaction between staff and people using the service. We noted people had appropriate equipment which enhanced their independence and assisted them to feel safe.
