During a routine inspection

A written policy and procedure on consent to treatment was in place, which we saw. Signed consent was obtained prior to any surgery taking place to ensure people's rights were upheld.

Whilst no surgery was taking place on the day of our inspection, people were visiting the service for pre and post operative consultations. However, no people were willing to speak with us. We looked at comments made by people in the questionnaires they had completed regarding the service. All of the comments were positive and included; "everyone involved was helpful and supportive," and "the treatment and aftercare was second to none."

Clear and detailed written procedures were in place regarding all aspects of the service provided, from initial consultation to post operative care. We saw evidence of these. Staff spoken with were very clear of the procedures to follow to ensure people's welfare was promoted.

Systems were in place for the control of infection so that people's health and safety was promoted. Written policies were in place, which we saw. Clear and detailed cleaning schedules were in operation and we saw copies of these. We found that the surgery was clean.

We found sufficient numbers of staff were provided on surgery days to ensure full and safe procedures were adhered to.

A complaints procedure was in operation so that people had the opportunity to voice any concerns.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with people who visited the clinic for consultations about their laser treatment. People felt their privacy and dignity was respected and that their personal information was treated confidentially. We spoke with two people who were attending the clinic together for a consultation. They felt supported in making decisions about their treatment, but felt they had not been put under any pressure to decide to have treatment. They said, 'The welcome pack explained everything.'

We spoke with people who visited the clinic for their post operative consultation. A person we spoke with who had laser surgery the previous day and was returning for their follow up appointment said, 'They were brilliant, I can't fault them. Staff were very sensitive in their approach. I was put at ease.'

People we spoke with in the clinic told us they felt safe visiting the clinic. One person we spoke with said, 'I feel really safe and well looked after.' Another person told us they felt very safe and comfortable.

People we spoke with were positive about the up-to-date equipment used for their treatment, and spoke appreciatively about their experience of staff in the clinic.

We spoke with people who were completing satisfaction questionnaires in the clinic. When they were asked to complete the questionnaire, they didn't feel under pressure.
