All Inspections

31 July 2013

During a routine inspection

At the time of this inspection the agency was providing personal care to some 120 people. Only one person was receiving nursing care from the agency. We spoke with eight of these people, or their relatives, two relatives three nurses and six care workers. Everyone expressed satisfaction with the care they received and the care workers who visited them. For example, one person said "They do as I ask them" and another told us " I have absolutely no problems at all"

We saw that care needs were assessed and that people were treated with privacy and dignity.

People were protected from abuse and they told us they felt safe with their care workers.

People also told us that they had been involved in making decisions about the service and support they wanted.

There was an accessible complaints procedure and all records were well maintained and held securely. People told us they could complain. One person told us that they would "certainly be able to complain"

Effective recruitment procedures and staff training meant people were cared for by staff trained and supported to do their jobs.

During a routine inspection

We found that Allied Healthcare, West Sussex shared their office facilities with two other agencies owned by the same provider. The provider has informed us they were in the process of reorganisation in order to regularise arrangements.

This inspection concentrated on the services provided by Allied Healthcare, West Sussex.

We spoke with three people or the relatives of people who have used the service. We also spoke with two members of staff who were involved in providing care to people. All interviews were carried out by telephone after we had visited the office.

People generally expressed satisfaction with the agency and with the quality of care provided. People said that care staff treated them with respect and that they felt safe with the care and support they received. One person told us, "I am quite happy with the service at this time." A relative told us, 'The care was not correct initially, but it is okay now. All in all, I am pretty happy with the service provided.'

They also confirmed they had been given a copy of their care plan and that they had agreed to the care provided. Staff we spoke with confirmed they had received training to ensure they had the skills and knowledge to perform the tasks expected of them.

We looked at a selection of care records. They demonstrated that the planning and delivery of care had been routinely reviewed to ensure they met people's current needs.
