During an inspection in response to concerns

The inspection visit was carried out by one Inspector over three hours. We assessed people's views by reading results from the most recent surveys; viewing concerns and compliments records; and by telephoning a sample of people or their relatives (chosen at random). We concentrated on standards which were non-compliant at our last inspection visit; and standards where concerns had been raised.

Some of people's comments included:

'The staff treat (my relative) all right. They do all of the jobs they should do. I have no concerns.'

'The girls who attended were nice, helpful, kind and friendly.'

'I am very, very happy with all the care and the carers.'

'I am happy with the care provided.'

'The staff showed caring and kindness. Both of the carers went the extra mile.'

'My relative and I are both happy with the standards of care provided. The standards of care are generally very good, and the staff are very professional in their attitudes. They are also very kind and caring, and cope very well when my relative has 'cranky' moods.'

During an inspection in response to concerns

We were told that, as far as practicable, independence and individuality are promoted. People were supported, enabled and encouraged to express their views and make or participate in making decisions relating to their care and treatment.

Someone who uses the service told us 'The care staff can be running late, but no-one rings to tell us. On one occasion both care staff were new and we had to tell them what to do. But the care staff are superb. They couldn't be kinder. I couldn't speak too highly of the girls.'

'Once a year they give us a care plan and we have an opportunity to look at it.'

One person said 'Oh the service has been 100% safe.'

One person said 'I know they do spot checks on the girls, and the manager rings to ask us questions about the service.'
