During a routine inspection

We visited the offices of Allied Health Care in Kings Lynn and reviewed the care plans for three people. We looked at management and staff record and spoke with one member of staff. We spoke with another member of staff, one person who received care and relatives of two people who received care over the telephone.

People told us they were happy with the care they received. One relative told us, 'I think they are exceptional. They have been very helpful and flexible.'

We saw detailed care plans which ensured the care met people's needs and was delivered safely.

Care workers told us they asked for consent before providing care. One care worker told us, 'I ask what they would like and if they are ready.' A relative told us, 'They are good at asking for consent.'

Care workers received training on medication. Care plans recorded people's medication. Care plans also recorded who was responsible for ordering and administering medication.

We saw there were appropriate systems in place for the recruitment of staff. Records showed all necessary checks were completed before people started work.

People told us they knew how to raise any concerns. One relative told us, 'The manager is good. If there is the slightest worry she comes and sees us.' Records showed concerns and complaints were listened to and appropriate action taken.

During a routine inspection

A person who had a live in carer from the agency told us that they were quite happy with the service. They told us that carers come on time and added, 'I can't blame them at all, they are very good. Care is much better than before.'

The person stated that they were treated with respect and were listened to when they expressed their likes and dislikes. They gave us an example of a carer preparing parsnips for lunch when she wanted them and stressed: 'I loved it'.

The person repeated to us several times that they were very happy and did not want any changes to their care or carers.

The person explained that they would prefer to have just one carer coming to see them, instead of two, but completely understood why two carers were allocated, to ensure consistency when one carer was off for holidays or other anticipated absence.

The person told us that they did not need to call the office, as a senior staff member was regularly checking on carers working there and on the needs of the person cared for.
