During a routine inspection

We visited the administrative office of the organisation where we reviewed documentation, spoke with the Branch Manager, Internal Audit, the Regional Recruiter and two care workers. Later we spoke with another care worker and people who used the service and their relatives over the telephone.

People we spoke with told us they were satisfied with the service, they felt safe and that their dignity was respected. One person we spoke with said 'The carers are lovely' another said 'You get good care from them'. Staff we spoke with said they thought people were treated with respect and their privacy and dignity was respected.

Staff told us the staffing levels were appropriate and staff were supported through their training. The three care workers we spoke with were complimentary regarding the training they had been provided with. One member of staff told us that 'I get a real buzz from my job' another said 'Helping people is a bonus and I love this job'.

The staff members we spoke with explained what actions they would take if people wanted to make a complaint about the service. They said the management would take complaints seriously and people would never be discriminated against for raising a complaint.

We spoke with nine out of the 80 people who use the service, they told us that they were happy with the service and that they received the care and support they need.

These are some of the things people who use the service told us: 'They are great', "Excellent" and 'They've improved my quality of life'.

We spoke with seven relatives of people who use the service and they told us that they were happy with the care their relatives received. They told us that the carers were friendly, reliable and helpful. Relatives confirmed that they had been provided with up to date information and contact numbers and they would contact the manager if they had any concerns.

People told us that care staff were on time when they visited them and stayed for the agreed duration during their visits.

Staff said they felt they were given enough time to carry out their duties and get to visits on time. Staff also said that they found the care plans detailed and gave them enough information on about people's care needs and the support they needed to give to make sure the needs were met.

A newly recruited staff member spoke positively about the training they had received and said it prepared them to do their job. They said they got good support form the manager of the service.

People who use the service and their relatives said the manager and carer checked that that they were happy with the care they were receiving. People said they had completed telephone surveys. A comment made was 'The Manager rings to make sure that everything's OK'.
