During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people who used the service and one visiting relative. People told us they were treated with respect and their dignity was always maintained. People said staff were "helpful and kind". A visiting relative said: "I have been very happy with the care. Staff seem to be very caring and can answer my queries".

We observed people using the service who were unable to talk to us. We found staff provided person centred care and support, and maintained people's dignity at all times.

People told us they were supported by staff who understood their needs and promoted their safety and welfare. People's care records, risk assessments and monitoring reports were sufficiently detailed, kept up to date and stored securely.

We found that the home was clean, tidy and well maintained. The Provider had an effective system in place for ensuring the premises was adequately maintained and fit for purpose.

The provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people receive.

We spoke to three people who use the service who told us that they liked living at the home. They told us that the service was 'fantastic' and that the staff were 'always friendly'. They also told us that the care they receive at the home was good and that staff were 'very nice'.

People told us they felt safe and knew who to speak to if they were worried about anything and we noted that the atmosphere in the service was relaxed and friendly. People told us they could tell staff and management what they thought about the service and were asked for their views about the service.

During a routine inspection

We spoke to six people who used the service who told us that they liked living in the house as it had a nice, relaxed atmosphere. One said that living at the home was 'the right thing for me'. People described the staff as 'lovely' and 'very helpful'.

We spoke to two relatives of people who use the service, who said that they were happy with the care that was being given and that they had confidence in the staff at the home. A representative of a person using the service told us how impressed they had been when their relative had needed medical aid and said that how quickly the situation was dealt with. They also said how good the subsequent care was that was given.

People told us that they were happy with their rooms and said they all had a television and telephone in them for their own personal use.

They told us that they could decorate the rooms as they wished and most had brought personal effects that made their rooms more homely.

People told us that there are usually enough staff on duty to provide the help or support needed. However some people using the service said that staff can be 'too busy' whilst another said that they 'have a lot to do' and that the home seemed 'short of staff'.
