People who use the service told us that they were quite happy to speak to staff or the registered provider if they had any issues or concerns about their care or about the general running of the home. They told us that their views and opinions were listened to and acted on.

They told us that they had been provided with a Service Users Guide. They said this gave them important information about the home such as access to General Practitioners and health care providers, staffing, meals and how to make a complaint.

One person told us that they had recently filled in a survey for the registered provider and had completed these before.

One person told us 'I go to day services three days a week and I visit my friends at an old peoples home'.

Another person told us 'I go to the gym on Mondays, go shopping on Tuesdays, I work at the British Heart Foundation shop on Wednesdays and go to college on Thursdays at the weekend I go to stay with my family, staff treat me with respect and they are really helpful'.

People told us they had care plans and they had discussed their care and support needs with staff.

One person told us 'I have a care plan, I had a review last week and I know what's in it, I can tell staff what I want at the service and they will try to do it for me, they are very good at that, I wanted to work on the allotments and they sorted that out for me'.

People told us there was always enough staff around to meet their needs; they told us they were supported by staff to maintain their independence.

One person told us 'there is usually one person on shift and this is enough to look after us, we do most things for ourselves and we are usually out doing our own things'.

We met and spoke to three people who use the service. We met in the lounge and talked about living at Angel Lodge.

People told us they were given important information about the home when they moved in. This was helpful for them to understanding what support the service offered.

They get all the things they need and they can talk to staff about what activities they would like to do.

They enjoy the food provided and involve themselves in planning what to eat, shopping for supplies and the preparation of meals.

They feel safe at the home and know who to speak to if they have concerns about their treatment or care.

The home was always clean and tidy.

Staff understand their health care needs and support them with their medication and attendance at appointments with health care professionals.

They can make suggestions to the registered provider about improving the service and they are confident they will be listened to.

One person told us "I have a really comfortable bedroom with nice furniture".

Another person told us 'When I first moved in I was worried that I could not bring my cat with me. The registered provider was very good and let me bring my cat, they even put a cat flap in the door so it could come and go'.

An occupational therapist was visiting the home. They told us that the quality of care is good and the provider works with the people to improve their confidence and daily living skills so that they can move onto a more independent placement. They do that very well. They have always been very impressed with the environment, and when prospective service users came to visit the home they usually wanted to come back.
