During a routine inspection

A new registered manager for Graceland Care is in the process of registering with the Care Quality Commission. The details on this report are those of the previous registered manager Christine Holdcroft. Mrs Holdcroft is no longer employed by the service.

We saw records which showed that people had consented to the care they received. We observed staff and heard them seek consent from the people they cared for.

We spoke with staff to see how the service liaised with the wider health community in order to ensure that the people they cared for maintained a healthy life style. A member of staff said, “We have an excellent relationship with the doctor. If someone is not well they will always find a slot”.

The service had a system in place for the safe management of medicines. Procedures were not always followed correctly.

There were systems in place to ensure that staff were of good character and their suitability to work with vulnerable people had been checked.

The provider had a complaints system which enabled people to raise concerns if they needed to. Easy read copies of the procedure were displayed in the home.
