We saw records which showed that people had consented to the care they received. We observed staff and heard them seek consent from the people they cared for.

We spoke with staff to see how the service liaised with the wider health community in order to ensure that the people they cared for maintained a healthy life style. A member of staff said, 'We have an excellent relationship with the doctor. If someone is not well they will always find a slot'.

The service had a system in place for the safe management of medicines. Procedures were not always followed correctly.

There were systems in place to ensure that staff were of good character and their suitability to work with vulnerable people had been checked.

The provider had a complaints system which enabled people to raise concerns if they needed to. Easy read copies of the procedure were displayed in the home.

People living at the home told us that they were happy with life at the home. People living at the home told us that they were able to make decisions about living in the home. They felt that the care staff listened to what they told them and this made them feel respected and cared for. One person told us, 'I love living here. There is always lots of laughing".

We observed that staff treated people with respect, communicating in appropriate ways so people were able to be involved in their day to day care. We saw that the home provided a homely environment where there were positive interactions between staff and people with lots of laughter and smiling and clear friendships were established. One member of staff told us, 'We are one big team'.

People told us that they felt safe and supported by care staff. The care staff that we spoke to demonstrated a good knowledge of how to protect people and who to contact if they had any concerns. Staff told us that they felt there was adequate staffing to make sure that people are safe.

We found there were adequate systems in place to monitor the quality and effectiveness of the care provided. The views of the people and their relatives were used to review and improve the quality of care.
