During a routine inspection

The Supported Living Scheme provided support to people living in three houses, which were near to each other. This meant that the staff could easily visit the different houses, and people receiving support could develop friendships with each other if they wished to do so.

We visited one of the houses and talked with two people who were receiving support, and three support staff, as well as with the manager. We found that the manager and staff were knowledgeable about the essential standards of quality and safety, and how to apply them.

The people we talked with were relaxed in the company of the staff, and spoke freely about their lives and the support they received. They said that the staff supported them in day to day living skills, in developing new skills, and in their choice of activities.

We spent time reading documentation including personalised care plans and daily log books. These demonstrated the individual care and support given to each person.

We found that the premises looked visibly clean in all communal areas. The people receiving services said that the support staff helped them with carrying out cleaning tasks in the home.

The service had reliable processes in place to ensure that people had their allocated support hours. A senior staff member was on call as a back up for any concerns arising out of hours.

We found that documentation was appropriately reviewed and audited, and contained suitable information.

During a routine inspection

The service operated in three premises, and we visited one of these. We talked with the three people who lived there, and who received the supported living service.

They said that the staff helped them to do the things they wanted, such as going out to do shopping or to visit places; to carry out household tasks such as cooking and laundry; and to pursue their preferred interests such as going to the gym, keeping in touch with family and friends, and looking after the chickens in the garden.

They said that staff supported them with their health needs, such as attending hospital and doctor's appointments, and carrying out exercise programmes.
