During a routine inspection

We spoke with 25 people or relatives of people that used the service. Overall they were happy with the care that they received. People valued the fact that they had regular carers. People told us that if ever they had to contact the agency regarding any aspect of their care that they found them accommodating and happy to help. One person told us 'I have to say we have been very impressed with the overall quality of the carers that we have'. Another person told us 'I think the agency would be amenable to listening to any concerns I have. I have always found them to be very good in the past and would recommend them to anybody'.

We spoke with three staff members that worked at the service who told us that they felt well supported in their roles and that they enjoyed their roles.

We found that people's care needs were assessed and a care plan put together with people that used the service to ensure that their needs were met. We found that people were asked for their consent and agreement with the care that was described in their care plan before it was carried out.

We found that the provider carried out appropriate checks on staff before they started work to ensure that they were suitable to carry out their role. We also found evidence of regular quality assurance checks of the service that were carried out with people that used the service although the feedback that we received about the frequency of the checks indicated that these were sporadic.

However, we had concerns about the way staff were supporting people with their medication and recording arrangements that were in place relating to medication.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We found that people's needs were assessed and that a detailed care plan had been put in place to meet their needs. We found that risk assessments had been carried out and that they were reviewed and updated to ensure people's welfare and safety.

During a routine inspection

People who used the service told us "They are excellent" and "I can't praise them more and I can't speak highly enough of them". Relatives of people who used the service told us "They are always good" and "they do everything that they are supposed to do and a bit more".

Staff told us "they are a very good company to work for" and "the office staff listen to us and always keep us informed".

We found that people were involved in their care and support but reviews of care plans and risk assessments had not always been carried out.
